James Buford was right on target with his commentary supporting the Betty L. Thompson Scholarship Program. It is part of legislation currently being considered in Jefferson City that would provide 10,000 scholarships for low-income and disadvantaged students. The scholarships can be used at any school, public or private.

I attended the March 2 committee hearing of the House Urban Affairs Committee that was held for the scholarship program, which is House Bill 639. Many parents expressed support for the legislation. However, it was sad to see representatives of several “educational” associations speak in opposition. They seem unconcerned about the students who are failing and dropping out of school.
