I am sitting at work today, Monday, January 15. This is supposed to be a national holiday in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The buses are on a Saturday schedule, so my sick husband had to get out of bed in order to drive to me to work, and he will have to pick me up as well.

I realize this is an “African-American” holiday, so the majority of businesses are not going consider this as a “paid” holiday, but I am sure many employees such as myself had no choice in the matter. I am a manager in a telemarketing company, so I “have to” be at work.

It makes me angry that a lot of our young people are either hanging out on corners, selling or taking drugs and killing each other over small things without even realizing that Dr. King gave his life in order for us to have the freedom in the workplace that we have today.

Where are our strong African-American leaders? Yes, we all need money, but we ALL need to stand up for OUR rights
