Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center has received a gift of $75,000 to be used to establish a Challenge Grant by an anonymous donor in response to The Power of 57 Cents’ Campaign to encourage community support for the Residential, Transitional Living, Therapeutic School, Teen Crisis, Crisis Nursery and Parent Education programs offered at Annie Malone.
The challenge goal is set at $225,000 to be completed by December 31, 2010.
“This is just wonderful news! We’re very thankful to our anonymous donor for this gracious, gracious gift. We hope others will step forward and honor that anonymous donor’s commitment and accept the “Power of 57 Cents Challenge,” said Richard L. King, Chief Executive Officer.
The Power of 57 Cents campaign began as a plea to encourage donors to contribute 57 cents each day for 365 days. While responses have grown to the annual request equaling $208, the 30 Day Challenge, requiring a personal commitment of just $17.10 and the recruitment of two friends to do the same, has appealed to a greater segment of the community. “The Power of 57 Cents Campaign is accessible to anyone who has the commitment to give. We are looking for one thousand people to take the full challenge. If that happens, the organization’s campaign will have identified 3,000 people who believe in what the collective “Power of 57 Cents” can do and will raise over $50,000 for the children we serve. It is a great service project opportunity for youth leadership programs, social clubs, employment groups, and a wide variety of others, said Linda Nance, Director of Resource Development at Annie Malone.
In 2009, Emerson Electric, another loyal supporter of the Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center, helped the agency by establishing a Challenge. The center raised just over $265,000 with the dedicated assistance of local media outlets spreading the word and the generous efforts of a diverse community of individuals, companies and corporations making donations from most every neighborhood and business sector.
Donations for the Power of 57 Cents should be made payable and mailed to: Annie Malone Children and Family Service Center, 2612 Annie Malone Drive, St. Louis, MO 63113. Identify the “Power of 57 Cents campaign” in the memo section of check.
