It’s back
to school time and schools everywhere are preparing to welcome
students, but none like Confluence Preparatory Academy in downtown
St. Louis. This year, Confluence Prep students are being welcomed
with additional state of the art classrooms, science labs and media
rooms.

The gym – scheduled to be completed in December – will allow students to have a space, filled with school spirit, to host home sporting events, practices and dances. The rooftop gym will be completed just in time for the start of basketball season.
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“The school spirit is becoming palpable in the building,” says Dion Edwards, Operations Manager. “Students and staff are getting ready for a great year and it shows in their excitement for the coming first day of school August 15.”

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“Everyone is talking about it, from prom plans to graduation and scholarships,” says Edwards. “It’s just a really exciting time to be at Confluence Prep.”
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Confluence works closely with community partners, such as the YMCA and St. Louis ArtWorks, to help students gain experiences that enhance their academics and personal growth. Also, the school has significantly expanded its guidance and counseling department to help students make decisions that will prepare them to gain admission to and succeed at college.
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“It’s important for all of our students to begin 9th grade with a vision of where they will be in four years,” says Principal Kacy Seals.
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“Our goal is to help them understand how attainable and valuable college is to them and their families.”
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Seals, a veteran principal in St. Louis, is leading Confluence Prep toward reaching its mission “to enable and inspire every student to develop fully his or her intellectual capacity and commitment to active citizenship.”
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>With more than 15 years of experience as a professional educator, Seals has been acknowledged as a true advocate for her students. Most recently, she was awarded the Seymour Sarason & Ted Sizer Award for her “dedication to fighting for students in St. Louis” and nominated for the Missouri High School Principal of the Year Award.
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“My philosophy as a leader is that it is important not to shy away from transparency and understanding,” says Seals.
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“If we expect to get the most out of students academically, we must build positive relationships.”
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>One important relationship is with parents. Seals encourages parent involvement, even at the high school level. All parents are welcome and invited to join the school’s parent organization.
“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>In addition to its college prep curriculum and ACT prep classes, the high school also offers a sports program that includes football; cross-country; basketball; and track. After-school programs include cheerleading; green club; step team and student government.
