The Fourth Annual Arthur M. Lucas Medical Ethics lecture, “Prognosis, Truth-telling and Hope: Ethical and Practical Issues,” will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Eric P. Newman Education Center, 320 S. Euclid Ave, 63110. Refreshments will be served at 3 p.m., followed by the lecture from 3:30- 5 p.m. A second lecture will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 7-8 a.m. at Washington University School of Medicine’s McDonnell Medical Sciences Building in the Erlanger Auditorium, 4565 McKinley Ave., 63110. The free event is in honor of former Barnes-Jewish spiritual care director Arthur M. Lucas.

Robert L. Fine, MD, FACP, FAAHPM, clinical director of the office of clinical ethics and palliative care at Baylor Health Care System will be this year’s keynote speaker for both lectures. Dr. Fine is also the director of the supportive and palliative care service at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Fine will address the importance of giving patients and families a realistic prognosis that balances both truth and hope.
