On Thursday, President George W. Bush will meet Thursday with Congressional Black Caucus members for the first time in more than two years.
Led by caucus chairwoman Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., they plan to discuss changes they would like to see in the president’s budget, expediting aid for Hurricane Katrina victims and their opposition to Bush’s handling of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
As a result of the November elections putting Democrats in control of the House, caucus members now head five full committees and almost 15 subcommittees, including four of the six subcommittees on transportation.
One is Rep. William Lacy Clay Jr., D-St. Louis, who now heads the subcommittee on federalism and the census.
