The program once known as the College Cost Reduction Access Act, which provided aid to HBCU’s may be coming to an end.
For the past two years historically black colleges and universities have received millions of dollars in direct aid from the initiative.
KSDK.com is reporting that the program will soon expire and school officials and others want to see it extended.
The two-year, $85,000,000 program ends next year and President Obama’s proposed education budget does not include an extension.
The new budget does, however, include more money for student aid, including Pell Grants.
Officials from a number of HBCU’S plan to appeal to the U.S. Department of Education and congress, to extend the program.
HBCU’s make up about three-percent of the USA’s higher education system.
