Christi M. Griffin will speak on “The Role of Social Work in a System of Mass Incarceration” 1-4 p.m. Thursday, April 17 at Centennial Christian Church, 4950 Fountain Ave.
Griffin is the author of “Incarcerations in Black: The Subjugation of Black America” and the founder of The Ethics Project, a non-profit organization addressing the impact of crime, injustice and incarcerations.
She will present an ethical workshop intended to broaden social workers’ role in service delivery in the criminal justice system.
“Social workers are the front line in addressing the traumas and social ills created by mass incarceration,” Griffin said.
“Approaching the routine duties within that scope and executing responsibilities with a high degree of ethics is critical to reducing the impact of incarcerations replete in any aspect of social work.”
The National Association of Black Social Workers St. Louis Chapter is hosting this event as part of its Elizabeth Garlington Lecture Series.
The deadline to register is Monday, April 14 . Griffin’s book and three CEUs are included in the $55 registration fee. For additional information, email wilsoc4444@sbcglobal.net, call 314-809-3922 or visit www. nabswstlouis.org.
