Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill (D) is all set for victory in her re-election bid versus Rep. Todd Akin (R). The projections, courtesy of major news organizations such as CNN, CBS and NBC, show McCaskill with a sizable lead even though ballots are still being tallied as of 9:37 p.m.

The Missouri race received national attention after Akin made a number of controversial statements including an assertion that women who were victims of “legitimate rape” could not become pregnant and another referring to McCaskill as a “dog.”

Before the comments, the race was expected to be a nail-biter, but Akin’s comments made it tough for him to gain support of women voters across the state.
