A coalition of black clergy is giving one last push to help passage of Proposition A, a half-cent public transit tax increase on the ballot tomorrow (April 6) in St. Louis County.

The Black Clergy for Public Transportation Ad Hoc Committee will host a Proposition A Voter Rally at 7 p.m. today at Bethesda Temple Church (located at 5401 Bishop J.A. Johnson Lane in Normandy.

If Proposition A fails, Metro has said, transit service will be cut by as much as 50 percent. Metro estimates that about 10,000 regular customers would lose access to transportation, and 600 Metro employees would lose their jobs

In the 2008 Metro Report prepared by Missouri University of Science & Technology, 76 percent of MetroBus riders were African-American. However, blacks made up only 40 percent of MetroLink riders, where the majority (54 percent) were white.
