St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley and Wellston Mayor Frank McNeil, Sr., broke ground today on the newest North County play area – the Wellston Neighborhood Park.
Once complete later this fall, the park will host a youth baseball field, half-court basketball court, playground, picnic shelter and walking path.
The groundbreaking ceremony “celebrates the continued economic growth in the community and the latest collaboration between the City of Wellston and St. Louis County,” according to Dooley.
This relationship includes the landmark Wellston Redevelopment Corporation (WRC), a redevelopment entity created to administer economic and community redevelopment in Wellston.
The WRC’s role is to review and approve redevelopment proposals to ensure that such activities are in accordance with a comprehensive redevelopment plan adopted by the city.
It represents “a unique collaboration between St. Louis County, the City of Wellston and members of the Wellston business community.”
