Black and white students in the Cultural Leadership program, along with their
families, are sharing traditions of Passover and Easter this week.
Cultural Leadership is a yearlong leadership program that was created to teach high-school students in the St. Louis region to be social justice activists and community organizers.
Monday was the first night of Passover. The group celebrated this religious holiday in the homes of Jewish high school students who are part of Cultural Leadership.
Passover is an eight-day holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Jews (Israelites) from bondage in Egypt by Moses. Group leaders said it is fitting that Jews and Blacks celebrate Passover together, because both groups have enslavement in their heritage’s history.
Then on Easter, April 4, other non-Black students and their families will join Black Cultural Leadership families for Easter services and lunch afterward.
The organization’s goals are to dispel stereotypes and promote understanding, as a future generation who will work together to fight racism.
