Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. again emerged as champion of the United Way of Greater St. Louis’ Charmaine Chapman Society Divine 9 Challenge.

Delta Sigma Theta raised $70,236 of the more than $264,000 pledged through the Divine 9 Challenge, an initiative of United Way’s Black philanthropy efforts.

Kappa Alpha Psi led fraternities in giving, raising $57,367. The winners were announced last week at the CCS Together We Shine event.

The challenge brings together members of Black fraternities and sororities in the St. Louis region in a friendly fundraising competition. Each Charmaine Chapman Society member commits to an annual donation of $1,000 or more to United Way.

“The Charmaine Chapman Society continues to embody our efforts to empower people and multiply our impact, and we are so proud that members continue to set a high standard for philanthropic excellence,” said Michelle D. Tucker, president and CEO of United Way of Greater St. Louis.

“Our Divine 9 Challenge was such a success because our CCS members continue to unite for the greater good of the community by giving to United Way through this challenge. Working together, our leadership donors help us fulfill our mission to help people live their best possible lives.”

The Charmaine Chapman Society is among the nation’s leading Black philanthropic groups, raising nearly $90 million since its founding in 1994. Its efforts support United Way’s community campaign, which provides resources for individuals and families across the St. Louis region.
