The St. Louis American profiled University City’s new black police chief in this week’s edition, and now Charles E. Adams must piece together why a man apparently killed a woman, his son and then himself.
Adam’s department is mum on details, but neighbors believe the couple might have been ending their relationship. The bodies were found Thursday in a home on Etzel. They have been identified as 34-year-old Michael Cannon, 34-year-old Kim Charleston, and their son 7-year-old Michael Cannon, Jr.
The little boy, called “Little Mike” was a first grader at Pershing Elementary School in University City.
Family members tried to get a hold of Charleston all day long, but they could not reach her by phone. A cousin got worried and came to the house. Bridgette Taylor told FOX2 “We said ‘come on let’s get around here and break in because that was not like her’, and we busted out the window and went upstairs.
“We found the baby on the bed, him on the floor and she in the other room.”
The couple were not married but lived together for at least 12 years.
