A lead defense attorney in the Duke lacrosse case has died.
A fellow defense attorney on the case says Kirk Osborn suffered a massive heart attack on Friday and died early this morning.
Joe Cheshire says the entire defense team is “devastated” by the news.
Osborn represented Reade Seligmann, one of three lacrosse players charged with sexual offense and kidnapping of a stripper hired to perform at a team party in March 2006. All three have steadfastly maintained their innocence.
According to his law firm’s Web site, Osborn graduated from the University of Colorado — where he was a three-year football letterman -in 1965. He received his law degree from the University of North Carolina in 1974.
Osborn lived in Chapel Hill.
