UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. — Missouri American Water issued an “urgent” boil water advisory on Saturday, affecting thousands of St. Louis-area residents.
The advisory was issued for numerous cities near St. Louis, including Clayton, Creve Coeur, University City, Overland and Olivette. Residents within the affected area were advised to boil any water used for drinking or cooking for at least three minutes. Water used for bathing, washing and other non-consumable uses is not affected.
The emergency alert was issued after a 30-inch water main broke at around 1:45 p.m., Saturday, June 6, near the intersection of McKnight and Old Bonhomme roads, according to Missouri American Water. The advisory is expected to last for at least 48 hours from that time.
