Students in East St. Louis will not begin class this week as originally planned. The first day of school is being pushed back because of construction.
Classes were set to begin Wednesday, but have been delayed until Sept. 3.
School leaders say they made the call because of safety concerns stemming from construction at East St. Louis High School. This is the second year in a row the district has had to delay the first day of school.
Last year school repairs kept classes from resuming on schedule.
