Fire and smoke swept through the sixth floor of Dawson Hall Saturday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, sending dozens of students fleeing into a courtyard. No serious injuries were reported.

Ciara Staples, a sophomore from St. Louis, told the Jefferson City News Tribune, “We saw smoke and then the alarms started going off as we left the room.”

Heather Robinson of St. Louis told the newspaper she was asleep on the ninth floor of the 10-story dorm when “I heard the alarm and I grabbed my purse. I could smell it.”
