Anthony Box, a former FBI Agent and Associate General Counsel for two Department of Defense agencies, will be joining the Circuit Attorney’s Office as Chief Investigator.
“As prosecutors, we are charged with seeking the truth through ongoing and special criminal investigations in the most efficient and professional manner,” said St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly M. Gardner. “Tony Box brings unprecedented investigative and law enforcement experience to this office. He will enhance our ability to hold the right people accountable with appropriate evidence, modern investigative techniques and through strong relationships with regional law enforcement agencies and the community.”
Box will report to Circuit Attorney Gardner and will be responsible for increasing the investigative skills of current staff, serve as a primary contact and coordinate activities with various law enforcement agencies including the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI. Gardner has expressed her desire to build the internal capacity to conduct independent investigations, and Anthony Box will be an important leader in her efforts.
He has more than 20 years of global investigative experience in both the public and private sector. He has been involved in hundreds of investigations all over the world including criminal, counter intelligence, white collar, healthcare fraud, and public corruption, among others, ranging from $100 million investigations with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services in Dallas, Texas to serving as ab advisor with the Afghanistan Ministry of the Interior, Office of the Inspector General to improve transparency, accountability and oversight.
“I spent nine years in St. Louis while at the FBI,” explains Box. “I love St. Louis and I jumped at the chance to make a positive difference by helping create a safer community for everyone.” Box has lead investigative teams of over 100 people in multiple countries. He is excited about the opportunity to train and develop the team of investigators at the CAO as Gardner furthers her efforts to conduct thorough, independent investigations.

With Top Secret Security Clearance, Box has a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government; a Juris Doctor from St. Louis University School of Law; and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Morehouse College.
