The City of St. Louis has recruited, trained and is sponsoring 71 volunteer sites that will serve summer meals Monday through Friday until August 7, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The city has no limit on the number of breakfast and lunches the program can provide to children and youth this summer.
Anyone 18 years or younger is eligible to eat. In addition, people who have been determined eligible by a state or local educational agency to have a mental or physical disability are also eligible.
Sites include Cherokee Recreation Center on Jefferson, Marquette Recreation Center on Minnesota, Monsanto YMCA on Page, The Sanctuary on Redbud, and Emerson Family YMCA on Pershall Road. To find the nearest site, call (314) 657-1695.
There are no limits to the number of sites the city can sponsor. It is not too late for additional volunteer sites to join the effort to feed children in all neighborhoods. Organizations looking to open a site also should call (314) 657-1695.
