According to the Associated Press, falling state revenues have prompted Gov. Jay Nixon to cut an additional $74 million from Missouri’s budget.

Nixon now has vetoed or cut more than $700 million from the $23.7 billion approved by lawmakers for state operations and capital improvements.

The two largest cuts made Tuesday were for rural broadband Internet and for improving radio systems used by emergency responders. Nixon cut $24 million from rural Internet and $29 million from the radio system.

The governor’s budget office says state revenues in January were down 12.5 percent compared with last year. Individual income taxes are down more than 11 percent from 2009, sales taxes are down more than 7 percent and corporate income taxes are down more than 13 percent.
