excited big sister, Deziree Stiss.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Weighing 6 pounds, 10

ounces, the newborn made an entrance into the world as the St.

Louis area’s first New Year’s baby, born at 12:02 a.m. January 1,

2012 at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center in Richmond Heights,

Missouri.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>The family was originally

expecting their new bundle of joy around January 6. It all started

with the mother experiencing Braxton-Hicks (false labor)

contractions late on the night of Dec. 29.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“I was having

contractions the day before I went in, but they just kept

stopping,” Hill said. “And then, they started back on the

30th and then my water broke at 11:30.”

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Baby Hailey, mom, dad and

the rest of the family are doing well. Mom Dina says everyone is

healthy, happy and excited about their new addition.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“She’s a night owl,” Hill

said. “She’s up all night and she sleeps all day. I have to wake

her up to get her to feed.”

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>In order to have a

healthy pregnancy, Hill made the decision to incorporate more

vegetables and fruits into her diet.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“I tried to eat more

vegetables. I’m not a big vegetable eater and kicked in on the

fruit – I’m crazy about pineapple,” Hill said. “I gained about

30-35 pounds.”

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>To get back to her

pre-pregnancy weight and to provide her baby with a healthy,

nutritious start, she is giving breastfeeding a try.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“I’m trying to

breast-feed and change my eating habits, because I’m not really a

big healthy eater,” she admitted, saying eating more fruits and

vegetables during her pregnancy should make changing her diet a

little easier.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>Being the hospital’s

first baby of the year has its privileges. Of course, there is the

media attention from an adoring public – but Hailey also received

an impressive array of birthday gifts from St. Mary’s as

well.

“font-size: 9.0pt; font-family: Verdana;”>“We got a stroller, some

Pampers, bibs, bottles, lotion, books and stuff like that,” Hill

said. “Some stuff I had that I had not opened yet that I got from

the baby shower, so I’m just going to swap it out and buy something

else that I don’t have.”
