Starting today and throughout the duration of the Democratic National Convention, Alderman Kacie Starr Triplett, a pledged Obama delegate, will be blogging live for the St. Louis American from Denver, Colorado.

Triplett will offer the inside scoop as she dodges oversized campaign buttons, stuffed donkeys and confetti to interview local officials, and party leaders on their thoughts and reactions throughout the convention.

Day One:

Let’s Close the Deal

Those were the words expressed by Congressman Lacy Clay at today’s Missouri delegation breakfast. Congressman Clay along with Senator Claire McCaskill addressed the delegation with opening convention remarks highlighting this important time in our nation’s history.

There is a great deal of buzz in the air. After hanging out with Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Tavis Smiley, Al Sharpton and others late into the evening at a reception honoring civil rights organizations, today is the first full day of the Democratic Convention.

This morning consists of a lot of housekeeping and logistics. The hotel where the Missouri delegation is placed is about 25 miles from downtown Denver which means lots of shuttles, public transportation and walking. Many of the streets and highway ramps are closed due to protestors and traffic.

Delegates have yet to receive their credentials, once credentials are received I will be on my way to thew convention center for a meeting of the African American caucus. Please check back regularly, as I will be updating from my blackberry routinely to provide you with an all access pass to the 2008 Democratic Convention.

Check back often, as Kacie will dish the political scoop and offer behind the scenes coverage on what its like to be young, black and a delegate for Barack!

Kacie Starr Triplett is a current 6th Ward Alderman for the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, and will serve as one of the youngest pledged delegates for the state of Missouri at the Democratic National Convention.
