The American has received several reports that former Vashon High School coach Floyd Irons suffered chest pains this morning while at the school and was transported away in an ambulance.

As of 1 p.m., the American was awaiting a comment from SLPS communications officer Tony Sanders and repeated calls to the high school had gone unanswered.

The ongoing turmoil between Veronica O’Brien, Irons and Demetrious Johnson took another turn with the board of education approving a $20,000 monthly expenditure for personal security for O’Brien on Monday.

O’Brien failed in an attempt last week to have a judge approve a restraining order against Irons and Johnson. Then, early Friday, a man who was set to file a civil lawsuit against Irons for a physical altercation in February 2000 was gunned down by three men.

Irons’ attorney, Jerome Dobson, said that his client has not been questioned by police in connection with that shooting. Irons was also in court on Monday for a hearing that challenges the right of William Purdy to serve on the school board. The plaintiffs’ have charged that Purdy was ineligible for election in April 2005 because he had relatives working for the district.

Purdy has countered with the argument that state law supercedes the SLPS regulation.
