Yesterday (Tues., Sept. 14), ideas for revitalizing the Jamestown Mall in North St. Louis County were gathered and presented to area residents.

The county’s economic council hired urban planners to come up with ideas to redevelop the mall – possibly taking it from a large, indoor shopping mall to a village with shops, restaurants, offices and apartments.

Planners said it will take about five years to complete the plan: a mixed use village, which would add restaurants and shopping to the area. Despite suggestions, only so much can be done.

This is the second of five phases. The idea is to keep people coming back, instead of traveling across the metro to shop. Ultimately, it will be up to the county to make a decision.

The county economic council wants the planners to seek public input and develop a concept the county could take to the mall’s five owners, and shop around to developers.

The financing is not yet in place, and the county has already paid $165,000 to hire the urban planners.
