The Macy’s store in downtown St. Louis is shutting its doors for good on Tuesday (Aug. 6).

Macy’s announced the closing in June of a central-city location that had been open under various names for nearly 90 years.

Tax revenue from sales at the store was intended to help finance a $112 million building renovation.

Macy’s officials said previously they would try to relocate the downtown store’s nearly 100 employees to its other area locations. Another 100 employees in the company’s corporate and district offices moved to Macy’s Earth City offices in St. Louis County.

Information from The Associated Press contributed to this report.
