Derrick Luster, the man accused of killing a Webster Groves Elementary School eight years ago, struck a plea deal with prosecutors and will be sentenced later this week. Jury selection was underway today (Mon., Nov. 17) Luster plead guilty to a second-degree murder charge.

Luster was accused of shooting Joyce Belrose in the parking lot of the West County Shopping Center in August 2000.

She’d been out shopping, preparing for the 2000-2001 school year, when she was killed.

At the time, police thought she was the victim of a theft, or a carjacking.

Police later said evidence from the scene from under the victim’s fingernails. The D.N.A. matched a sample Luster provided.

Luster, a native of Overland, could receive life in prison.
