After an intense manhunt that had a section of St. Louis on lockdown yesterday, the man suspected of murdering an Illinois youth remains behind bars this morning in St. Charles County.
Marcus Powell, 27, led authorities on a manhunt for several hours Thursday morning before he was captured in a mobile home park in O’Fallon, Missouri at approximately 10:20 a.m.
Powell has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, according to Capt. Brad Wells with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
Yesterday afternoon at a press conference Capt. Wells said that Cortez Davis, 25, of East St. Louis is charged with aggressive discharge of a firearm in connection to the shooting. Also charged is Kevin Campbell. He is charged with armed violence and aggressive unlawful use of a weapon. Capt. Wells said that more charges could come.
Wells also said that the turn of events that eventually led to the arrest began in the wee hours of Thursday n. He said that police got a tip that Powell was in Wentzville. Police spotted Powell’s car and tried to stop him in Weldon Spring but he got away and stole another vehicle.
