Students with the top science fair projects in the Ferguson-Florissant School District will share them with the community at the STEM Expo on April 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the McCluer High School Hub, 1896 South New Florissant Road.

The expo also showcases the district’s programs and community resources related to science, technology, engineering and math, known collectively as STEM. Among other attractions, attendees will be able to see robots in action, observe the stars in a planetarium and make fruit smoothies using electricity generated by a stationary bicycle.

“The STEM Expo gives us the opportunity to showcase some of our students’ best work, demonstrate the critical importance of these fields in the 21st century and show students how they can prepare themselves for the future,” said Eric Hadley, science curriculum coordinator for the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

Representatives from local colleges and universities, technical schools and community colleges will also offer information on STEM-related courses of study. Local manufacturing and construction unions will be present to speak with attendees about STEM-related trades, and recruiters from the armed forces will be on hand to discuss STEM-related job assignments.

“We are preparing our students for today’s information-based and highly technological society with a focus on developing their capabilities in science, technology, engineering and math,” Hadley said.
