The Missouri Democratic Party has joined the Mound City Medical Forum and scores of other organizations in endorsing the Missouri Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative, Chairman Roger Wilson announced today.
In an endorsement resolution, the party calls on its members to vote yes in November for the initiative, which would “ensure that all Missourians have a right under the state constitution to benefit from all stem cell research, therapies and cures allowed by federal law.”
“We support this initiative because it offers new hope and opportunities to our family members, friends and neighbors who face the challenges of living with everything from Alzheimer’s to juvenile diabetes,” Wilson said.
Wilson also said strict language in the initiative explicitly bans any attempt at human cloning and establishes clear ethical guidelines for stem cell researchers in Missouri.
“Stem cell research offers tremendous promise to hundreds of thousands of Missourians,” Wilson said. “We encourage voters from across party lines to come together in support of this lifesaving initiative.”
