Missouri will receive up to $5.7 million to be spent as rebates to consumers who buy energy-efficient appliances.

The funds are part of the federal stimulus legislation, and Missouri officials must now decide which appliances will qualify. The federal energy agency will award the money for rebates based on a special formula.

The U.S. Department of Energy is advising states to focus the rebates on heating and cooling equipment, appliances and water heaters. That’s because they have the greatest potential for conserving energy.
