In the wake of a third consecutive night of conflict in Ferguson, Ferguson-Florissant School District has decided to once again delay the start of their new school year.
In a news release, The Ferguson-Florissant District – which serves students at the center of the unrest – released the following statement:
Information we have received from officials on the scene late Sunday evening contributed to concerns we have about the children walking to school or waiting for buses on streets impacted by this activity.
Debris on the roads could impact transportation and create continued disruption affecting our students and families in the area.
While our teachers and administration are eager to welcome our students back to school and begin the 2014-15 school year, the safety of the students is our primary concern.
Meanwhile, Jennings, Northview Special School District and Riverview Gardens school districts have decided to close their doors on Monday, August 18th.
Riverview Gardens released a similar statement:
“All schools and buildings in the Riverview Gardens School District, are closed today, August 18, 2014, and all transportation and activities have been cancelled.
Information was recently received that would impact the transition of walking students, parents and district transportation for the start of school at a number of buildings in the district. All school closure decisions are made with the safety and security for all students as our first priority.”
