Broadcast television trailblazer Dianne White Clattto passed away yesterday, according to her former employer KSDK.com. She was 77.
White Clatto became the first African American woman meteorologist in the country more than 60 years ago, but she was so much more during her nearly 30 year stint in television.
She was also an anchor, general assignment reporter and – though she doesn’t get much credit for it – her coverage of the St. Louis Cardinals’ Spring Training made her a pioneer in sports broadcast reporting as well.
And before arriving at KSDK (then known as KSD), White Clatto was one of the first African American students at the University of Missouri.
After her career in television, White Clatto went on work for the Mayor’s office and Better Family Life.
Information from KSDK.com contributed to this report.
