A group of some 30 protestors gathered at the new Pinnacle Casino worksite. They came calling for more minority inclusion on the project.
The group, including one state representative, came around 6:30 Monday morning, threatening a civil disobedience shutdown of the ongoing casino construction project at Laclede’s Landing if more minority workers aren’t hired onto the job.
The group, known as the “Minority Inclusion Alliance,” claims that right now Pinnacle has only 16% minority inclusion on its building project.
Back on March 6th the group, made up of five major minority contractor and worker organizations from the St. Louis area, says it gave Pinnacle what it calls a “30-day protest notice”.
Now the group warns it will shut down construction on the nearly half-completed, $400 million project in ten days if minority inclusion numbers on the project don’t rise to between 25 to 35 %.
The group claims 25% minority inclusion is what the city calls for.
The protest also kicked off a campaign to encourage area builders to create a thousand jobs for black workers this summer.
