Update 11:40 a.m. USA Today is now reporting the U.S. Marshal’s office has retracted its previous report regarding the deputy’s death. The deputy’s is now said to be in “critical condition.”
Two are reportedly dead after a suspect opened fire on eight law enforcement officers in south St. Louis.
The incident took place around 6:50 this morning in the 3100 block of Osage.
The Eight officers entered the home to issue a felony warrant when authorities say the suspect began shooting. Two U.S. Marshals and a St. Louis police officer were struck in the gunfire.
The officer was transported to Barnes Jewish Hospital, and the two Marshals were taken to SLU Hospital.
According to News 4 one of the Marshals and the suspect have died.
Federal and local government officials, including Mayor Slay, are at the hospital, as well.
Authorities say the police officer suffered a graze wound. Erica Van Ross from the St. Louis Police Department says his wounds are likely from fragments that hit him in the neck and face, which may have ricocheted off his vest.
The officer has been with St. Louis City Police for 34 years, and the department says he has worked with the U.S. Marshals for several years. Chief Isom and the officer’s family are at Barnes.
Police were involved in a standoff with the suspect. Osage street is currently blocked by police activity.
