Would you spend $100 for a chance to own, free and clear, a new half-million dollar home in St. Peter’s, Missouri?

That is exactly what St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is counting on – your opportunity to win a valuable asset while supporting the hospital, which treats seriously ill children, at no cost to their families.

Richard Lee Snow, St. Jude senior advisor of multicultural marketing and business development of the Memphis-based institution, said the hospital has a unique history with African Americans.

“In 1962, when St. Jude opened its doors, it was the only integrated pediatric hospital in the south – the only place where African American children could be treated by the same doctors; sleep in the same room; go to the same restroom; eat in the same cafeteria,” Snow said. “Nearly 40 percent of our patients are African American.”

Snow said through St. Jude’s sickle cell research, in 1982, St. Jude became the first institution to cure sickle cell disease with a bone marrow transplant.

St. Jude is primarily funded by individual, private donations, which make up 76 percent of its funding. It depends on partnerships and concerned people across the country to help raise funds to keep it operating.

“No family that ever comes to St. Jude ever receives a bill. Not only do we pay for medical coverage, we pay for transportation, we pay for food, we pay for the education of the children when needed,” Snow said. “We believe if you have a child that is suffering from cancer or some other catastrophic disease, all you should worry about is loving your children.”

St. Jude has Dream Home giveaway locations throughout the U.S., to give many a chance at their dream home closest to where they live.
