The state of Missouri has denied Attorney General Chris Koster’s appeal of George Allen Jr.’s overturned conviction for rape and murder.
Allen was freed last month after spending more than 30 years in prison for rape and murder after DNA and other evidence was called into question.
Court reporter Mary Bell’s body was found inside her Lafayette Park home on February 4, 1982. She’d been raped, stabbed and her throat was slit.
Allen, who had been admitted to psychiatric wards in the past, falsely confessed to the crime during questioning.
