According to KSDK NewsChannel 5, Missouri education officials have just released the latest test scores for schools across the state and state educators say middle school students are making significant progress.

The Missouri Assessment Program tests, known as the MAP tests, show that 6th, 7th and 8th graders are improving in math and reading.

Locally, some middle schools such as Wydown Middle in Clayton posted exceptional scores. In a news release, Clayton officials touted the district as finishing first in St. Louis County in 6th and 7th grade math and 7th grade communications arts.

St. Louis City, the states’ largest district, also pointed to improvements in communications arts and math. But curriculum director Paula Knight told NewsChannel 5 there are still many schools where students are struggling.

While the city district showed some of the lowest scores, state officials say the scores of students in the majority of the area’s 10 charter schools are lower than city students.
