Shalom House, a transitional and emergency 24-hour residential care facility for homeless women in St. Louis, has received two significant home improvement gifts from area retailers totaling $25,000 in labor and supplies. The donations will help completely renovate the transitional housing unit in Shalom House, that 12 women at a time call “home”.

“We always strive to give the women at Shalom House our best,” said Tammy Laws, Shalom House Executive Director. “The extraordinary care Lowe’s is putting into this project and the generous donations from Carol House Furniture reinforce to our women that they are worthy to live in a nice, safe place where they can truly begin to stabilize and rebuild their lives.”

Several St. Louis area Lowe’s stores have come together with donations including new kitchen appliances, ceiling fans, paint, bathroom fixtures, window treatments, shelving, lighting, seating, and flooring. The bathrooms will also be made handicap accessible. Employees from Lowe’s’ stores across the area have volunteered to help complete and install various projects as part of the renovation.

“Lowe’s wanted to give the women of Shalom House a better place to call home,” said Teri Jamison, Lowe’s District Manager. “Our donated materials are quality products that we proudly sell in our stores and that any customer would love to have in their home.”

Local retailer Carol House Furniture also donated an entire living room set for the transitional housing unit, including new couches, chairs and a dining set.

“We’re delighted to be able to give homeless women in our community a comfortable place to live,” Brook Dubman, President of Carol House Furniture. “We feel like we’re making such a huge difference in the lives of those who get back on their feet with the help of Shalom House.”

Shalom House will host an open house on Wednesday, July 20 from 3:00-6:30 p.m. to allow the public to see the complete renovation of their transitional housing unit.
