Webster, a 30 year veteran in the

field of office administration,

took advantage of a program for

displaced workers that pays for a two-year educational program at

St Louis Community College.

counselor, she chose to pursue the office information coordinator

associate degree.

student at age 50 is challenging enough, but Webster also needed to

work part time to ease the financial strain on her family. She is

working in the Counseling and Career Center at Florissant Valley

while striving to complete her degree requirements in

December.

experiences will prepare her for any office situation she will

encounter.

“After having worked in a variety of

office environments for the past 32 years, the courses I have taken

really have sharpened my skills,” Webster said. “It’s a real

advantage to have experienced professionals teaching the

courses.”

The associate degree in information

systems: office information coordinator prepares students to use

office technology, including current computer hardware, operating

and application software, and equipment such as personal digital

assistants, voice recognition technology and scanners. Students

also learn to supervise and train others in their use. Courses are

offered at Florissant Valley, Forest Park and Meramec.

STLCC also offers an 18-credit-hour

certificate in microcomputer applications. Students learn a variety

of end-user applications for personal computers. Applications

include operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets and

databases. It prepares graduates to perform most computer-related

tasks in today’s offices. Courses are offered at Florissant Valley,

Forest Park and Meramec.

Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the Multipurpose Room in the Student Center
