A 2-year-old girl who died early today of a bullet wound suffered in her home in Venice early Monday has been identified as Timberlyn D. Terrell.
The girl died at 5:15 a.m. at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, Illinois State Police said.
The apartment is in the 1300 block of Klein Avenue, in the Bissell public housing development.
Master Sgt. Jim Morrisey, supervisor of the State Police Metro East homicide unit, said investigators didn’t want to describe the shooting — whether accidental or intentional — until they had conducted more interviews.
Morrisey said they wanted to talk to Anthony R. Wise, 23, of the Venice-Madison area, who was in the apartment at the time the girl was shot. Officers did not recover a weapon at the scene.
Morrisey said Venice police officers had transported the girl to Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, from which she was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St. Louis.
The girl’s mother accompanied her to the hospitals, Morrisey said. The girl was shot in the head.
Relatives of the child declined to comment.
