Barnes-Jewish Hospital and its physician partners at Washington University School of Medicine are ranked #1 in a new list of the 15 top St. Louis metro area hospitals according to U.S.News & World Report.
Barnes-Jewish has been ranked among the nation’s elite medical centers for 18 consecutive years as part of U.S.News annual Honor Roll of “Best Hospitals.”
This is the first year U.S. News has ranked hospitals within a metro area. The new rankings are meant identify community hospitals that performed nearly as well as the nationally ranked “Best Hospitals” in at least one of 16 adult specialties. Barnes-Jewish is nationally ranked in 15 of the 16 specialties.
To compile the list of metro area hospitals, U.S. News looked at hospitals within all 52 U.S. metro areas with populations of one million or more, using existing data from the 2010-11 “Best Hospitals” list. Here is how St. Louis area hospitals ranked:
#1 – Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University
#2 – St. Louis University Hospital
#3 – Missouri Baptist Medical Center
#4 – Christian Hospital
#5 – SSM DePaul Health Center
#6 (tie) – SSM St. Joseph Health Center
#6 (tie) – SSM St. Mary’s Health Center
#8 (tie) – St. John’s Mercy Medical Center
#8 (tie) – St. Luke’s Hospital
#10 – Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital
#11 – SSM St. Joseph’s Hospital West
#12 (tie) – Anderson Hospital
#12 (tie) – Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital
#12 (tie) – Memorial Hospital
#12 (tie) – SSM St. Joseph’s Hospital of Kirkwood
The new rankings add 490 hospitals to the 132 nationally ranked “Best Hospitals.” The annual U.S.News list of “Best Hospitals” in the United States is scheduled to run in July.
