A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather service, a strong winter storm will bring the area wintry precipitation starting this afternoon and continuing into Tuesday.

This afternoon, the rain is expected to change over to sleet and snow. This could make for a messy evening commute.

Tonight the wintry mix should let up for awhile and then pick up as heavier snow just before the Tuesday morning commute.

On Tuesday morning, the snow could be heavy at times. It could make for a very tricky morning commute.

The snow is expected to continue intermittently after the change-over through Tuesday afternoon.

By Tuesday afternoon the snow is expected to taper off and come to an end Tuesday evening.

At the end of this winter weather system, the St. Louis metropolitan area could see three to seven inches of snow accumulate. Areas to the south and east of the metro area will see closer to three inches while areas to the north and west will see closer to seven inches.
