This is what Cecilia wanted to share in her own words:”Dear family and friends, thank you all for coming to my ‘Going Home’ Celebration. I would like to share a brief synopsis of my life with you. I was born in Clarksdale, MS to Alberta Lumpkin on February 2, 1958. I attended Catholic Elementary Schools and University City Junior and Senior high schools. After graduating high school, I attended Forest Park Community College to further my education. I worked at a number of jobs before working at Towers Perin, where I was employed for 10 years before I became disabled. The one thing that I enjoyed doing my late teens and early twenties is dancing (Modern, jazz, and African). Dancing was a passion for me”.
Cecilia participated in several dance competitions and danced as a regular on a local television show. She later married and had two daughters Cara Washington-Vonner and Deidra Washington.
Cecilia was a Christian woman who always took time to help others by giving monthly to St. Jude’s and donating to other organizations. She was very outgoing and had a loving spirit.
Cecilia leaves to mourn her mother, Alberta Lumpkin; two daughters, Cara Washington-Vonner and Deidra Washington; son-in-law, Michael Vonner; grandson, Michael Vonner, Jr.; uncles, Lawrence and John Lumpkin; aunts, Irene Ward, Ruth Cunningham and Pecola Lumpkin, a dear friend Alvin Cross, and a host of close cousins, family and friends.
