Claude Elmer Arnold was born July 18, 1921 in Trenton, Tenn., to Willis Arnold and Claris L. Bailey Burnett. He was the only child born to this union. Both parents preceded him in death. Claude’s formal education was acquired in the St. Louis Public Schools, graduating from Vashon High School in June 1941. He attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City and is a life member of the National Chapter of the Lincoln University Alumni Association.

Deacon/Steward Arnold was converted at the tender age of 12 in Prince of Peace Baptist Church under then-pastor, the late Rev. Fred McDonald. After serving in the U.S. Army, he was honorably discharged in 1943. He immediately began a rewarding career in government service as a federal employee with the Department of Defense. He received numerous outstanding awards for his performance of duties.

Deacon/Steward Arnold was very strong in his faith and commitment to God and loved both his churches, Prince of Peace Baptist Church and Jamison Memorial AME Church, where he transferred his membership to worship alongside his wife and daughter.

Deacon/Steward Arnold was a member of the Urban League, founder and organizer of Block Unit 539B in the 21st Ward, as well as other civic participations.

He will be remembered for his friendly personality, his love and loyalty to family and friends, and his dedication, strong stand and love for God and His word.

Cherishing his memory, mourning yet rejoicing in his purposeful life are: a loving and devoted wife, Birdie L. Arnold; a loving daughter, Griselda Cay Arnold; an uncle, Dr. James Bailey (Mary Louise); an aunt, Dr. Minnie Bailey; one sister, Sue Bicey (Sherman); two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Douthit and Addie Wallace; nephews, nieces, a host of cousins, many close friends at Prince of Peace Baptist Church and his Jamison family.
