Erma Suggs Brooks

FEBRUARY 26, 1932 – FEBRUARY 6, 2019

Erma graduated from Sumner High School.  She was the 1st African American to graduate with a major in Fashion Design from Washington University.  She worked in the St. Louis Public School System as a teacher and Instructional Coordinator.  Her final teaching position was with Harris-Stowe State University where she served as Art Instructor and Coordinator.  Erma worked for Jack Brandt as an Interior Designer.  This led her to embark on her own adventure and establish “Erma Designs”.  She is survived by her children, Symphony Brooks and John Brooks, Jr.; her sister, Grace Suggs Brown; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Service was held on Thursday, February 14, 2019. Memorial contributions may be made to Harris-Stowe Foundation, in honor of Erma Brooks, 3026 Laclede Ave., St. Louis, 63103.
