James Thomas was born July 17, 1921, in Birmingham, AL to the late Jim and Laura Thomas. He was the second of seven children. James confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He received his education in Birmingham, AL. He later joined the U.S. Army where he was a faithful soldier that trusted God until the end.
James was united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Mae E. Jefferson. He was a faithful and devoted husband for 53 years. From this union 10 children were born.
James was employed at McQuay Norris for 30 years until his retirement. James was a very kind and loving man that gave himself without thought of recompense to anyone that came in contact with him that needed help.
James’ life on this side came to a close on May 1, 2007 at 2:50 p.m. at Forest Park Hospital.
James was preceded in death by his daughter, Doris; sister, Pearl; brothers, John, Leroy, Milton and Gordon; stepmother, Willie Mae Thomas; and father-in-law, Artis Jefferson.
James leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Mae; children, Carol, Linda (Eric), Melvin, Patricia (Kirk), Kenneth (Cynthia), Phyllis, James, Jr. (Yolanda), Christine, Michelle (Cleotus) all of St. Louis; sister, Leola of Chicago, IL; mother-in-law, Flossie Leonard of St. Louis, brother-in-law, Author Lee Jefferson of St. Louis, sister-in-law, Maurine Ward of St. Louis; 16 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren all of St. Louis; cousins and friends; nephew, Homer of Chicago, IL; nieces, Ola of Memphis, TN, Sara of Chicago, IL and Willa “Willie” of Indianapolis, IN.
