Josephine Frances (Rodgers) Mosley

MRS. JOSEPHINE FRANCES (RODGERS) MOSLEY, was the eight of 12 children born to Joseph Jefferson Davis Rodgers and the former Frances Stanford in St. Louis, MO on November 2, 1924.  She attended and graduated from Vashon High School.  She married Arvetta Ward, and to this union, a son, Ralph was born.  In a later marriage to George Wilson Mosely, two sons, Eric and Delbert (Beaver) were born.

Josephine became the family cook at a young age, often preparing meals for up to a dozen people.  Later, as a wife and homemaker, every Sunday was Thanksgiving.  Her normal meals on that day consisted of homemade rolls, a cake and a pie, all prepared from scratch, a main dish and several side dishes.

Josephine worked in a number of jobs, one of which consisted of manufacturing small arms at the Goodfellow plant in St. Louis during World War II.  She retired as a bookkeeper at Mound City Trust Company in St. Louis, MO.

Home owner Josephine was most proud of the fact that she never turned down anyone who needed a place to stay.  Over the years, visitors always seemed to make the Mosely home a mandatory stopping place when in town.

She loved to travel, and Josephine visited 44 states in the United States.  She and her husband, George, attended four International Summer Olympics.  Her favorite part was the opening and closing ceremonies.  When she attended the games in Canada in 1976, Josephine found it particularly amusing that Canadians had never heard of Canadian bacon.

Friends and family will always remember the unconditional love which Josephine extended to all.  She had a grand time this past November when numerous friends and relatives came by to help celebrate her 90th birthday.  A wonderful time was had by all.

Preceded in death by:  Frances Stanford Rodgers (mother) and Joseph Rodgers (father), five brothers, five sisters, George Mosely (husband), and Ralph Stanford Ward (son).  She leaves to mourn: Eric R. Mosely (son); Delbert L. (Beaver) Mosely (son); Bernell Madison (sister); Brian Ward (grandson), Leslie Ward (granddaughter), George Ward (grandson), Erica Mosely (granddaughter), Eric A. Mosely (grandson), Emeric Mosely (grandson), a host of great and great-great grandchildren, and many dear friends.
