August 7, 1948 – December 1, 2007
Kenneth Louis Coleman, born August 7, 1948, passed away on December 1, 2007, due to complications stemming from heart failure. An artist, art collector, and teacher, Kenneth graduated from Sumner High School in 1967 and from Webster University with a degree in English in 1975.
In 1976, Kenneth married fellow artist, English major and Webster alumni Clara Collins, also of St. Louis. After living in New Orleans from 1982 to 1999, Kenneth and Clara returned to their hometown, St. Louis. Throughout his life, Kenneth was a prolific artist, producing hundreds of paintings, photographs, and sculptures. Kenneth and Clara also collected African art and artifacts.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Clara; his daughters, Khara Coleman, Myia Coleman, and Laurel Allen; eight brothers and sisters; and countless other relatives. Kenneth’s parents, John Albert and Maggie Louis Coleman, and his brother John, preceded him in death. Kenneth will be remembered as a man who loved his family passionately, who truly appreciated the blessing of life, and who was both concerned and hopeful about the plight of all people of African descent.
