Leroy McNichols, a soldier in the army of the Lord, answered the call of the Savior and departed this life on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at DePaul Hospital following cardiac surgery.
Leroy was born February 13, 1935 to Mary May Lee and James McNichols Jr. He was the eldest of four children born to this union. His father and his wife, Doris, preceded him in death.
Leroy was baptized in the precious name of Jesus at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He later became a member and a disciple of Shalom Church (City of Peace). In November 2011, he united with the Cornerstone Institute Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his passing.
Leroy was educated in the St. Louis Public School system. Following school, he entered the US Air Force, where he received honors for four years of service and was awarded an Honorable Discharge in 1956. After his tour of duty, he applied his skills in manufacturing as an inspector for Hussmann Corporation. He retired after 25 years of service.
Leroy fell in love for the first time when he was only eight years old. In April of 2010, he wed that love, his childhood sweetheart, Audrey Akers Robinson.
Leroy was a friend to many. His wife, family and friends were the treasures he valued most.
Leroy leaves to mourn his passing, his loving devoted wife, Audrey; his mother, Mary Lee McNichols, his daughter, Gail Gayfield (and her family); his sons, Darlon, Anthony and Devin Williams (and their families); sisters, Thelma and Phyllis; brother, Tyrone (Donna); stepsons, Ricky (Rita), Leon Simpson, Walter (Diane) Simpson; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other friends and colleagues.
